Sankar is a Software Engineer, who moved to East Kilbride two years ago. He's used the app to discover and fall in love with the area and indulge his passion for travelling and trekking.
Here's what Sankar said about his experience with Think, Move, Breathe:
"I came across a Facebook post from South Lanarkshire Council a couple of years back and I instantly decided to sign up as walking through the woods and parks and by the lochs and rivers attract me more than spending time in movies or clubbing. Now whenever I have to go out, I make sure the app is turned on.
Initially, I had a rented car as I was new to the locality and commuting to the Glasgow office got me a bit worried about timing. But then as I got accustomed with the area and local transport and availability of the buses, I decided to part ways from private car commuting. It has been almost two years now, and I feel a lot has been achieved from my health and financial perspective.
Socially, I've made new friends on my local commute thanks to the decision! Health-wise, my cholesterol was way above the permitted level. Now I'm well on the good side thanks to the regular cycling and walking. What makes it worth it, is that the views never get old whenever you go out, especially when you have so many options in beautiful South Lanarkshire. There's also a lot of new dedicated cycling lanes around the busy roads.
I have a habit of finding history around East Kilbride and in broader South Lanarkshire. Doing so, I 'discovered' Crutherland Cave in Calderglen Country Park, ruins of Craigneith Castle, Grave of Jean Cameron, Langland Moss, Queen Mary's Seat and The High Point at Greenhils to name a few. I never knew my locality has so many interesting and historic places.
The campaign has been life-changing for me. A perfect example to reduce carbon footprint, enhance community's health aspect and create bonds."
