Kelly is from Rutherglen and works in Argos at the weekends. Kelly has used BetterPoints to smash her personal goals, get out during the week while she’s not working and socialise more.

Here’s what she said about using the app:

BetterPoints has just recently helped me to complete 100 days in a row of 10,000 steps, a lot of which I did by myself as my friend who I normally go with was back in England. She has always been into walking, but I used to drive everywhere so I haven’t done much on my own or without her and her dog Teddie, who’s in the photo, before. I was so proud of myself because I’d never thought I’d achieve something like that. My next goal is to hit 15 million steps and if I keep going, I should be there by Christmas!
The app definitely helped me to achieve my goals now that I’ve got a little bit more to work towards, like vouchers, which is great. I’ve got four birthdays coming up in October, so my BetterPoints could help me out with those, or maybe I’ll save up for something a bit bigger at Christmas.
My friend and I now go out walking pretty much every day. We take both of our daughters to school, although they’re at secondary now so we only take them a bit of the way, and then we leave them because they don’t want to be seen with parents! Then we go off on our own walk Monday to Friday when I’m not working. We got into walking with Beat the Street a few years ago through the girls’ school and have been going since then really, and when a friend from South Lanarkshire Council told me about Think, Move, Breathe, I signed up straightaway.
The app has been really motivating, we walk all the way down to the supermarkets in Rutherglen to get the messages, and we’ve even walked as far as East Kilbride Retail Park! People must see us out with our wee backpacks everywhere! It’s helped me in a lot of ways; socially I’ll meet people out and about, say hello and when you’ve got the dog people always stop to talk. And personally, I find I come home with more energy. Although I might be a bit sore from all the walking, I’ll still have that boost of energy to wash the dishes or cut the grass instead of sitting down.
I love the leaderboards, there’s a few of us on there keeping tabs on each other. Another friend is really competitive, and she runs and is top of the leaderboard every week. She’s out to Strathclyde and Chatelherault Country Parks every week for the boost so she’s the one to beat!
For anyone who hasn’t signed up I’d say definitely do it. Either find a friend or put some music on and just get out there to clear your head."
