At 60, Stevie works as a civil servant and on his GP’s advice to support his mental health, decided to build more walking and cycling in to his week. His wife heard about the BetterPoints app through South Lanarkshire Council, so he thought, why not give it a go?
“I started with short rides and walks and it just clicked. Being outdoors clears my head and the rewards are a nice bonus.”
These days, Stevie cycles everywhere, visiting local parks like Chatelherault and nearby nature reserves for exercise and mental clarity. He mixes in longer walks and trips to a local gym especially during the Move More campaign in January, when gym visits earn extra rewards.
Since using the app, Stevie has lost 2.5 stone, explored far more of South Lanarkshire and been inspired to travel further particularly after seeing posts in Facebook groups like Bikes Leaning Against Stuff.
“I’ve noticed a big lift in both my physical and mental health. I love a spin through a nature reserve, then treating myself to a coffee paid for with BetterPoints.”
His only suggestion?
“I wish the app was promoted even more so more people could join in and earn rewards like I am.”
